The Devonport Orions have secured their 24th Second Grade flag in club history after defeating Sheffield by 99 runs in the 2025/26 grand final at the Devonport Oval.
The result was a combination of the club's emerging talent with the bat and then one of its club legends with the ball as they made it back-to-back triumphs over the Mountaineers.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first under sunny skies, the Orions opted for the slow and steady approach with the bat, reaching 4-127 after 67 overs thanks to patient knocks from Kai Wilson (29) and Brad Moore (26).
Sheffield hit back with late wickets to bowl Devonport out for 172, including the final wicket of Tarkin Maxwell, who showed great application at the crease to compile a team-high 42 off 143 deliveries.
Left with three overs to see out the opening day, Sheffield were immediately put on the back foot as club legends Sam Fogg and Chris Lindsay took one wicket apiece to leave the visitors reeling at 2-0 at stumps.
Day two resumed under overcast skies, with Fogg making full use of the added movement through the air to rip the heart out of the Sheffield middle order.
Fogg finished with figures of 6-28 off his 16 overs to skittle the Mountaineers for just 73, with Lindsay and Josh Collins claiming two wickets each.
Sheffield decided to have one last crack at the Orions with the ball, but conceded the game after 10 overs as the home side reached 0-41 with Lochie Reid (19 not out) and Wilson (15 not out) guiding the team to safety.
Unsurprisingly, Fogg was awarded the man of the match award for his efforts with the ball.
The result comes on top of the team's win in the One-Day Cup final in January against Burnie.
