In the game of cricket, a half-century with the bat is a reasonable achievement. It shows you have been at the crease for a bit.
However, the unbeaten half-century we celebrated at our recent annual dinner is an example of arguably the finest innings of longevity, not only at the Devonport Cricket Club, but in cricket in Tasmania as a whole.
The season of 1975-76 saw a teenager by the name of David Mullett make his A Grade debut at the club as a young fast bowler.

At the start of 2025-26 season, ‘Trout’ notched up an amazing 50 years of continuous service at the club as he began his role as co-coach of our women’s 1st Grade team.
In between those seasons, Mullett has pretty much done everything at the club, both on and off the field, with an eye-watering list of achievements including the following:
All-time club leader in both A Grade/1st Grade games played and wickets taken.
8 x A Grade/1st Grade premiership player
2 x 2nd Grade premiership player
10 x A Grade/1st Grade club bowling average winner
2 x A Grade/1st Grade club batting average winner
3 x A Grade/1st grade club champion
3 x 2nd Grade club bowling average winner
1 x NWTCA player of the year
4 x NWTCA A Grade/1st Grade bowling average winner
1st Grade/A Grade men’s captain
1st Grade/A Grade men’s coach & assistant coach
1st Grade women’s co-coach
DCC Team of the Half-century member
DCC Pop Miller Merit award winner
DCC Life Member
DCC 1st Grade Club Champion award named in his honour.
DCC President
DCC Secretary
DCC Treasurer

On top of all this (and no doubt we have missed a few), Trout has served on the NWTCA/CNW board since the early 1980s and continues to be the association treasurer to this day. His association achievements include:
NWTCA Life Member
NWTCA Dell Luck Merit Award winner
NWTCA/CNW Hall of Fame inductee
To put it simply, our club would not be what it is today without Trout’s amazing contribution over 50 years. On the field he has helped us win premierships through his deeds with bat and ball and helped shaped future premiership players and club champions with his advice and guidance. Off the field he has shaped the club to what it is today and helped put it in a sound financial position.
We would also like to thank former players Samuel Paske and Paul Jackson for coming up from Hobart for our annual dinner to help celebrate Trout’s milestone, with the pair joining Chris Dell up on stage to reminisce.
